PETRE PANDREA

Petre Pandrea is the pen name of Petre Marcu (b. June 26, 1904, Balș ‐ Oltenia - d. July 8, 1968, Bucharest), Romanian lawyer, writer, publicist and essayist.

He made his debut, at the age of 19, in the magazine "Gandirea". Since then he has become very active in cultural life, collaborating intensely with many magazines.


After the communists took power, he was arrested in 1948 for his involvement in an imaginary "Cambrea conspiracy" and imprisoned at Ocnele Mari between 1948 - 1952 without being investigated and convicted, but interned and forgotten in jail and in Aiud in 1958- 1964. Petre Pandrea was elected post mortem member of the Romanian Academy (2013). Some thousands of journal pages confiscated by the security were returned to the family after a long process of declassification, so from the year 2000 his work began to be published or republished.

Simona Halep (born September 27, 1991, Constanța, Romania) is a Romanian tennis player who reached the first position in the WTA world rankings, twice, between 2017 and 2019. She held this position for 64 weeks.  Halep finished on first place in the world in 2017 and 2018 in the WTA rankings. She is currently ranked 2nd in the world.

Halep won the Grand Slam tournaments at Roland Garros (2018) and Wimbledon (2019). She won 20 singles tournaments during her career and played another 17 finals, being the most titled tennis player in the history of Romania.


She was named the Player of the Year 2018 by the WTA, also the Most Popular Player in 2014 and 2015, respectively, but also the Fan Favorite in singles in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She earned $ 35.85 million from tennis, finishing 4th all-time, after sisters Williams and Sharapova.
